What is RRR?

RRR is an Indian Telugu-language epic action drama film directed by S. S. Rajamouli, released in 2022. The film is a fictitious story about two legendary revolutionaries and their journey away from home before they started fighting for their country in the 1920s.

To date, One of India’s most expensive movies, RRR Rise Roar Revolt, has won the Best International Film award. It also won The Golden Globe Award and Oscar Award 2023 for the hit song Naatu Naatu for Best Original Song. The Telugu movie focuses on the relationship between two Indian revolutionaries, Alluri Sitarama Raju (Ram Charan) and Komaram Bheem (Rama Rao), and their struggle against the British Raj. The RRR movie focuses on the unrecorded period of these two fictional characters during 1920.

What is PIL?

Public interest Litigation (PIL) means litigation filed in a court of law to protect the “Public Interest.” The primary purpose of PIL is to facilitate adequate access to justice for the socially and economically weaker sections of society and realize fundamental rights.

Why RRR filed PIL in Telangana High Court Before Release?

As per Rajkotupdates.news, RRR has filed a Public interest Litigation (PIL) in Telangana High Court Before Release. Keep reading the article if you want to know why?

SS Rajamouli directs RRR ( Rise Roar Revolt) with leading roles played by Ram Charan and Jr NTR. From the day the film announces its release, the film was facing a lot of controversies as the focus was on the two famous freedom fighters, Alluri Sita Rama Raju and Komaram Bheem.

Controversy 1:

The first controversy was over the film’s title. Rajamouli first named the film Roudram Ranam Rudhiram but changed it to RRR after a legal battle with another South filmmaker.

Controversy 2:

As per news18.com, a Public Interest Petition (PIL) was filed by Alluri Soumya, a student hailing from West Godavari district in the Telangana High Court, seeking not to issue a Censor Certificate and restrain the producer of ‘Roudram Ranam and Rudiram’ (RRR) from releasing the movie.

The complainant claimed that the film distorted the illustrious history of great independence fighters Alluri Sita Ramaraju and Komaram Bheem (played by actors Ram Charan and Jr NTR, respectively) to offend the genuine heroes’ and supporters. According to the complainant, the film destroys Alluri Sita Ramaraju and Komaram Bheem‘s history.

She requested for a postponement of the ‘RRR’ film’s release and that the SS Rajamouli-directed film should not be issued a censor certificate. Justices Ujjal Bhuyan and Venkateswara dealt with the case.

Controversy 3:

Another controversy, as per Rajkotupdates.news, Filmmakers make allegations of plagiarism against SS Rajamouli. Leela Gour, a writer, claimed that the RRR story was stolen from her novel, The Men Who Killed Gandhi. Rajamouli denied these allegations and claimed that the story of RRR is original.

Controversy 4:

As per Rajkotupdates.news, Telangana Film Journalists Association (TFJA) has gone for PIL on April 5th,2022. This association raised issues over the depiction of characters Komaram Bheem and Alluri Sitarama in the film. TFJA also raised issues over the use of CGI technology to recreate the faces of freedom fighters. They alleged that this use of CGI is unethical and disrespectful.

RRR Makers Respond to PIL Filed

The RRR makers did not react directly to the PIL filed. But the director stated that the film is fictional and does not intend to disrespect or hurt anyone. He also said they have taken all necessary permissions and clearances to use the famous characters of Komaram Bheem and Alluri Sitarama Raju.

A two-judge bench was arranged that consists of Justice Abhinand Kumar Shavalo and Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and they reviewed the PIL and dismissed it. They said nothing could disturb the reputation of great personalities. The judge instructs the producers of RRR to take all necessary precautions to avoid any controversy during the release.

Final Verdict

Rajamouli never contended that the film was based on actual events and always clarified that it was a fictional work based on real characters. For many years, no one knew what happened in the lives of those two freedom fighters, and Rajamouli found his tale in those unknown years. The judges also requested the censor board to ensure no copyright infringement occurs during and after the film’s release. The cost of the movie came up to Rs 550 crores.

RRR’s producers says, illegally downloading the movie would diminish the film’s expensive budget and the work put into generating its content. Unauthorized movie downloads have become a severe problem in India. Internet service providers must limit access to websites and social media platforms, encouraging piracy after the Telangana High Court accepted the PIL.
